1. Free Radical Multiphase Chemistry on Tropospheric Photoreactive Particles.
PMID:日期:2026-09-28Gas-phase and multiphase reactions of free radicals play pivotal roles in tropospheric chemistry. Recent studies indicate that photoinduced multiphase reactions serve as a potential source of free radicals rather than a traditional sink. To accurately evaluate their environmental impacts, this Review provides a comprehensive overview of radical multiphase chemistry on key photoactive components. By systematically reviewing the multiphase generation of photoinduced free radicals, we first provide insights into the underlying multiphase reaction mechanisms and kinetics. Subsequently, the synergistic reactions among photoreactive components and the mutual feedback mechanism between short-lived and persistent free radicals are illustrated, thereby revealing their complex interactions on environmental microinterfaces. Then, the effects of multiphase radical chemistry on primary particle aging and secondary particle formation and growth are described in detail. Finally, we critically examine existing challenges and inaccuracies in the exploration of radical multiphase chemistry, highlighting the urgent need for the comprehensive quantification of photoinduced surface oxidation capacity, along with the scientific evaluation of their health risks and climatic effects. The aim of this work is to identify the missing source of atmospheric radicals, thereby facilitating the evaluation of their environmental impacts and illuminating future directions for particle-emission reduction.

2. Interfacial Energetics in Metal Halide Perovskite Solar Cells.
PMID:日期:2026-09-09Controlling the energetic landscape of metal halide perovskite solar cells is crucial for optimizing device efficiency and stability, as well as enabling new architectures beyond conventional layered designs. While band alignment criteria are key determinants of performance in organic photovoltaic devices, they are often insufficient for perovskites due to their high charge carrier density, mobile ions, and soft lattice structure. A deep understanding of the electronic structure of the perovskite and the contacting layers remains an active area of research and requires expertise in the characterization techniques. In this review, we analyze how interfacial energetics influence charge extraction, the formation of energy barriers, interfacial recombination, and ion migration, highlighting the unique challenges posed by the soft ionic lattice of metal halide perovskites. To this end, we provide a comprehensive overview of experimental techniques for probing energetic alignment, emphasizing their operating principles, limitations, and emerging in situ variants. Building on these insights, we discuss strategies for controlling the interfacial energetics of perovskite solar cells, ranging from interfacial layers and dipolar modifiers to electrical doping. Finally, we explore the device architectures that eliminate the need for charge-selective layers. Together, these insights establish a framework for understanding and engineering the energetic landscape of metal halide perovskite-based devices, linking fundamental semiconductor physics with practical strategies for future perovskite technologies.

3. Milestones in the Elucidation of Heme Biosynthesis.
3. 血红素生物合成阐明过程中的里程碑PMID:日期:2026-09-09Heme (protoheme IX) is an essential cofactor in biology, serving diverse roles including, but not limited to, one-electron reactions, oxygen transport, catalysis, and signaling. The elucidation of its biosynthetic pathway represents one of the more remarkable scientific accomplishments of the past century. Early 19th-century chemists first isolated, named and characterized porphyrins, while their structural determination by Fischer in the 1920s earned a Nobel Prize. The mid-20th century ushered in isotopic tracer studies which revealed glycine and succinyl-CoA as the starting substrates for the pathway to heme. Identification of porphobilinogen (PBG) as an early pathway intermediate led to the identification of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) as the first committed pathway precursor. Subsequent decades brought the recognition of porphyrinogens as true pathway intermediates, the sequence of decarboxylation and oxidation steps, the identification of the glutamate-based pathway to ALA in plants and most bacteria, the characterization of all pathway enzymes, the discovery of alternate bacterial pathways, and identification of multiprotein complexes. This review traces the historical progression of discoveries, highlighting both the breakthroughs and missteps that shape the current view of heme biosynthesis, and underscores the interplay of chemistry, physiology, and molecular biology in unraveling this ancient metabolic pathway.

4. Recent Advances and Future Perspectives of Proton-Conducting Electrolytes for Reversible Solid Oxide Cells.
PMID:日期:2026-09-09Proton-conducting reversible solid oxide cells (P-RSOCs) are emerging as a transformative platform for efficient and flexible conversion between electricity and chemical fuels, including hydrogen and syngas. Their intermediate-temperature operation (400-600 °C) offers a compelling combination of high energy efficiency, rapid reaction kinetics, and strong compatibility with renewable electricity and industrial waste heat, positioning P-RSOCs as a promising technology for a carbon-neutral energy future. At the heart of these devices lies the proton-conducting electrolyte, which governs proton transport, chemical stability, interfacial compatibility, and long-term durability. Despite remarkable advances in electrolyte development, fundamental challenges in understanding and controlling proton transport, chemical stability, and electrode-electrolyte interactions continue to constrain practical deployment. This review presents a comprehensive and critical assessment of the current state of proton-conducting electrolytes for P-RSOCs, with emphasis on proton transport mechanisms, composition-structure-property relationships, stability limitations, and interfacial compatibility. We examine advances in perovskite-based and emerging alternative electrolyte families, while highlighting key strategies─including aliovalent doping, interfacial engineering, microstructure design, and advanced fabrication─for overcoming persistent limitations. Emerging operando characterization and computational approaches are further discussed as powerful tools for uncovering dynamic transport and degradation mechanisms and accelerating materials discovery. By integrating fundamental insights with materials-design strategies, this review identifies critical knowledge gaps and opportunities to guide the development of robust, high-performance electrolytes. Ultimately, we envision that such advances will help unlock the full potential of P-RSOCs as a versatile platform for sustainable energy conversion, storage, and renewable-fuel production.

5. Insights into the Life Cycle and Therapeutic Agents for Monkeypox Virus Infection.
PMID:日期:2026-08-26Since the first confirmed case in 1970, the monkeypox virus (MPXV) has emerged as a significant threat to global public health. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on two occasions. Despite decades of research, only tecovirimat has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the treatment of MPXV infection. The genome and structure are similar between MPXV and other orthopoxviruses (OPXVs), suggesting that the strategies used for other OPXVs may be applicable to MPXV. This review systematically summarizes the genome, structure, and critical stages in the life cycle of OPXVs, especially MPXV. A variety of antiviral agents against MPXV and other OPXVs are discussed according to their distinct mechanisms of action: 1) blocking viral entry and fusion, 2) inhibiting DNA replication and processing, 3) disrupting transcription and mRNA processing, 4) preventing virion assembly, maturation and release, 5) modulating immune responses, and 6) mechanism unknown. Overall, this article provides a systematic review of current research progress on potential therapeutic targets and agent for MPXV, aiming to offer innovative insights and strategies for the development of effective therapeutic agents against mpox.

6. Computational Mass Spectrometry Imaging in the Era of AI.
PMID:日期:2026-08-26Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a tool-of-choice for mapping and understanding the spatial organization of biomolecules, including small metabolites, lipids, peptides, and many others. As the MSI instrument and spatial biology inquiries evolve, researchers and practitioners are constrained by the inherent trade-offs in spatial resolution, chemical detail, and acquisition time. Here, we review how the rapidly growing interplay between MSI and machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI)-powered computational approaches is addressing these issues. We begin by highlighting key steps in MSI experiments and summarizing major ML/AI paradigms in the context of MSI data, providing a foundation to review how ML/AI impact each step in the MSI workflow, starting with methods to accelerate data acquisition. We then discuss emerging applications of dimensionality reduction, segmentation, and various supervised/unsupervised learning approaches to extract useful chemical insights from high-dimensional MSI data. Approaches to leverage multimodal imaging to guide the acquisition process or provide a more informative integrated analysis are discussed. We conclude with a forward-looking discussion on the state of computation and MSI, spanning ML-enabled instrumentation, scaling measurements to 3D and large cohorts, and the integration of MSI with other spatial omic data.

7. AI for Accelerated Materials Discovery: From Generative Design to Autonomous Realization.
PMID:日期:2026-08-12Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming materials discovery, shifting the paradigm from labor-intensive trial-and-error approaches to data-driven, automated workflows. This review examines emerging AI methodologies for accelerated materials discovery, with particular emphasis on how computational design, data infrastructure, synthesis planning, and autonomous experimentation can be connected into experimentally grounded workflows. We begin by surveying generative models for inverse materials design, tracing the evolution from early variational autoencoders and generative adversarial networks to recent diffusion models, Bayesian flow networks, flow-based architectures, transformer-based methods, and large language model-driven approaches for the de novo generation of crystalline materials with targeted properties. We then discuss physics-informed and data-efficient AI strategies that incorporate domain knowledge to enhance the model generalizability and robustness in low-data regimes. The emergence of multimodal foundation models, which integrate heterogeneous data modalities including crystal structures, text, and spectroscopic information into unified representations, is examined as a key enabler for cross task generalization. We further review AI-driven synthesis planning algorithms and autonomous self-driving laboratories that bridge the persistent gap between the computational design and experimental realization. Critical infrastructure challenges, including database limitations, FAIR data principles, and knowledge-graph construction, are also addressed. By highlighting both demonstrated capabilities and persistent limitations, this review aims to guide the reliable application of AI toward materials discovery workflows that connect candidate generation, synthesis feasibility, experimental feedback, and data provenance.

8. Toward Polyoxometalate Nanoelectronics.
PMID:日期:2026-08-12Polyoxometalates form a large family of molecular oxide clusters of the early transition metals with unique and tunable properties (multiredox, thermal and chemical robustness, magnetic). We review more than 30 years of experimental research on the electron transport properties of polyoxometalate devices, from thin films and self-assembled monolayers down to single-molecule junctions. We focus on the relationship between the polyoxometalate structures (structural type, nature of metals and heteroatoms, role of the counterions, redox states, electrode linkers, and functional ligands) and the electronic structures of the polyoxometalate-based devices (energy positions of the molecular orbitals, energy offset at the interfaces). Then, we critically discuss the performances of polyoxometalates in nanoelectronic devices: capacitance and resistive switching memories, spintronics, quantum bits, and neuromorphic devices. We conclude with a discussion of pending issues and perspectives.

9. Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy for Viral Diagnostics: Principles, Strategies, Clinical Challenges, and Future Directions.
9. 用于病毒诊断的表面增强拉曼光谱:原理、策略、临床挑战与未来方向PMID:日期:2026-08-12Viral outbreaks such as SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and COVID-19 underscore the urgent need for rapid, sensitive, and scalable diagnostic technologies. Current standard methods, including nucleic acid amplification tests and immunoassays, offer complementary strengths but face limitations in cost, turnaround time, and early-stage detection. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has emerged as a promising alternative, leveraging plasmonic nanostructures to amplify weak Raman signals and provide molecular "fingerprints" of viral components with single-molecule sensitivity. This review provides a comprehensive overview of SERS-based virus detection, highlighting the fundamental principles of Raman enhancement, the role of substrates and hotspots, and analyte-specific challenges. We categorize sensing strategies into direct detection of intact viruses and components, affinity-based approaches using antibodies, aptamers, or viral receptors, and labeled methods that amplify specificity and multiplexing. Advances in nanofabrication, receptor engineering, and machine learning have significantly improved sensitivity, reproducibility, and classification accuracy, with detection limits reaching down to a few viral particles per milliliter. Despite these advances, challenges remain in handling biological complexity, ensuring reproducibility, and translating assays into clinical practice. We conclude by outlining opportunities for integrating SERS with portable devices, standardized spectral libraries, and artificial intelligence, paving the way toward rapid, robust, and deployable viral diagnostics for future pandemic preparedness.

10. Mechanisms and Manifestations of Ligand Bias in Signaling: Focus on Receptor Tyrosine Kinases.
我们综述了这些方案及其在RTK(单次跨膜受体中最大的家族)信号传导研究中的应用。
[英文摘要] The development of organisms and the maintenance of tissue homeostasis depend on complex intercellular signaling networks that govern basic cell functions. Because cells are typically exposed to many diverse ligands simultaneously, distinct intracellular mechanisms of cell signaling have evolved, allowing cells to accurately sense and respond to their environment. Here, we discuss the concept of ligand bias, which describes the ability of different ligands to preferentially activate specific signaling pathways, and thus produce divergent responses through the same receptor. Although bias can be challenging to identify and quantify, protocols have been established to (i) determine whether preferences exist and (ii) quantify these preferences. We review these protocols and their utility in studies of signaling by RTKs, the largest family of single-pass membrane receptors. We summarize the literature suggesting that RTKs engage in biased signaling and discuss the utility of signaling bias in therapeutics design. We discuss parallels with GPCR biased signaling, and lessons that have been learned after years of GPCR signaling research. Finally, we propose that RTK ligand bias appeared in evolution to diversify the morphogen signaling pathways that direct the development of tissues and organs in the mammalian body.
