1. SAM C-GAN: a method for removal of face masks from masked faces.
PMID:日期:2023-05-26The past years of COVID-19 have attracted researchers to carry out benchmark work in face mask detection. However, the existing work does not focus on the problem of reconstructing the face area behind the mask and completing the face that can be used for face recognition. In order to address this problem, in this work we have proposed a spatial attention module-based conditional generative adversarial network method that can generate plausible images of faces without masks by removing the face masks from the face region. The method proposed in this work utilizes a self-created dataset consisting of faces with three types of face masks for training and testing purposes. With the proposed method, an SSIM value of 0.91231 which is 3.89% higher and a PSNR value of 30.9879 which is 3.17% higher has been obtained as compared to the vanilla C-GAN method.

2. A novel and accurate deep learning-based Covid-19 diagnostic model for heart patients.
PMID:日期:2023-05-19Using radiographic changes of COVID-19 in the medical images, artificial intelligence techniques such as deep learning are used to extract some graphical features of COVID-19 and present a Covid-19 diagnostic tool. Differently from previous works that focus on using deep learning to analyze CT scans or X-ray images, this paper uses deep learning to scan electro diagram (ECG) images to diagnose Covid-19. Covid-19 patients with heart disease are the most people exposed to violent symptoms of Covid-19 and death. This shows that there is a special, unclear relation (until now) and parameters between covid-19 and heart disease. So, as previous works, using a general diagnostic model to detect covid-19 from all patients, based on the same rules, is not accurate as we prove later in the practical section of our paper because the model faces dispersion in the data during the training process. So, this paper aims to propose a novel model that focuses on diagnosing accurately Covid-19 for heart patients only to increase the accuracy and to reduce the waiting time of a heart patient to perform a covid-19 diagnosis. Also, we handle the only one existed dataset that contains ECGs of Covid-19 patients and produce a new version, with the help of a heart diseases expert, which consists of two classes: ECGs of heart patients with positive Covid-19 and ECGs of heart patients with negative Covid-19 cases. This dataset will help medical experts and data scientists to study the relation between Covid-19 and heart patients. We achieve overall accuracy, sensitivity and specificity 99.1%, 99% and 100%, respectively. The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s11760-023-02561-8.

4. Accumulated bispectral image-based respiratory sound signal classification using deep learning.
PMID:日期:2023-05-05The COVID-19 virus is increasingly crucial to human health since new variants appear frequently. Detection of COVID-19 through respiratory sound has been an important area of research. This study analyzes respiratory sounds using novel accumulated bi-spectral features. The principal domain bispectrum is used for computing accumulated bispectrum. The resulting magnitude bispectrum is used in forming the bispectral image. In this work, a convolutional neural network (CNN) and ResNet-50 algorithms are designed to classify respiratory sounds as either COVID-19 or healthy. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the state-of-the-art methods. The proposed CNN-based method achieves the highest accuracy of 87.68% for shallow breath sounds, and ResNet-50 achieves the highest accuracy of 87.62% for deep breath sounds. Similarly, proposed methods gives the improved performance for other respiratory sounds.

5. Non-intrusive speech quality assessment with attention-based ResNet-BiLSTM.
PMID:日期:2023-04-10Speech quality is frequently affected by a variety factors in online conferencing applications, such as background noise, reverberation, packet loss and network jitter. In real scenarios, it is impossible to obtain a clean reference signal for evaluating the quality of the conferencing speech. Therefore, an effective non-intrusive speech quality assessment (NISQA) method is necessary. In this paper, we propose a new network framework for NISQA based on ResNet and BiLSTM. ResNet is utilized to extract local features, while BiLSTM is used to integrate representative features with long-term time dependencies and sequential characteristics. Considering that ResNet may result in the loss of context information when applied to the NISQA task, we propose a variant of ResNet which can preserve the time series information of the conferencing speech. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has a high correlation with the mean opinion score of clean, noisy and processed speech.

6. Machine learning approach for detecting Covid-19 from speech signal using Mel frequency magnitude coefficient.
PMID:日期:2023-03-25The Covid-19 pandemic is one of the most significant global health concerns that have emerged in this decade. Intelligent healthcare technology and techniques based on speech signal and artificial intelligence make it feasible to provide a faster and more efficient timely detection of Covid-19. The main objective of our study is to design speech signal-based noninvasive, low-cost, remote diagnosis of Covid-19. In this study, we have developed system to detect Covid-19 from speech signal using Mel frequency magnitude coefficients (MFMC) and machine learning techniques. In order to capture higher-order spectral features, the spectrum is divided into a larger number of subbands with narrower bandwidths as MFMC, which leads to better frequency resolution and less overall noise. As a consequence of an improvement in frequency resolution as well as a decrease in the quantity of noise that is included with the extraction of MFMC, the higher-order MFMCs are able to identify Covid-19 from speech signals with an increased level of accuracy. The procedures for machine learning are often less complicated than those for deep learning, and they may commonly be carried out on regular computers. However, deep learning systems need extensive computing power and data storage. Twelve, twenty-four, thirty, and forty spectral coefficients are obtained using MFMC in our study, and from these coefficients, performance is accessed using machine learning classifiers, such as random forests and -nearest neighbor (KNN); however, KNN has performed better than the other model with having AUC score of 0.80.

7. N-Net: an UNet architecture with dual encoder for medical image segmentation.
PMID:日期:2023-03-22In order to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment planning, accurate and automatic methods of organ segmentation are needed in clinical practice. UNet and its improved models, such as UNet + + and UNt3 + , have been powerful tools for medical image segmentation. In this paper, we focus on helping the encoder extract richer features and propose a N-Net for medical image segmentation. On the basis of UNet, we propose a dual encoder model to deepen the network depth and enhance the ability of feature extraction. In our implementation, the Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) module is added to the dual encoder model to obtain channel-level global features. In addition, the introduction of full-scale skip connections promotes the integration of low-level details and high-level semantic information. The performance of our model is tested on the lung and liver datasets, and compared with UNet, UNet + + and UNet3 + in terms of quantitative evaluation with the Dice, Recall, Precision and F1 score and qualitative evaluation. Our experiments demonstrate that N-Net outperforms the work of UNet, UNet + + and UNet3 + in these three datasets. By visual comparison of the segmentation results, N-Net produces more coherent organ boundaries and finer details.

8. A hand rubbing classification model based on image sequence enhanced by feature-based confidence metric.
PMID:日期:2023-01-20Hand hygiene is critical for declining the spread of viruses and diseases. Over recent years, it has been globally known as one of the most effective ways against COVID-19 outbreak. The World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested a 12-step guideline for hand rubbing. Due to the importance of this guideline, several studies have been conducted to measure compliance with it using Computer Vision. However, almost all of them are based on processing single images as input, referred to as baseline models in this paper. This study proposes a sequence model in order to process sequences of consecutive images as input. The model is a mixture of Inception-ResNet architecture for spatial feature extraction and LSTM for detecting time-series information. After training the model on a comprehensive dataset, an accuracy of 98.99% was achieved on the test set. Compared to the best baseline models, the proposed sequence model is correspondingly about 1% and 4% better in terms of accuracy and confidence, though 3 times slower in inference time. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that the accuracy metric is not necessarily adequate to compare different models and optimize their hyperparameters. Accordingly, the Feature-Based Confidence Metric was utilized in order to provide a more pleasing comparison to discriminate the proposed sequence model with the best baseline model and optimize its hyperparameters.

9. RNN-combined graph convolutional network with multi-feature fusion for tuberculosis cavity segmentation.
PMID:日期:2023-01-05Tuberculosis is a common infectious disease in the world. Tuberculosis cavities are common and an important imaging signs in tuberculosis. Accurate segmentation of tuberculosis cavities has practical significance for indicating the activity of lesions and guiding clinical treatment. However, this task faces challenges such as blurred boundaries, irregular shapes, different location and size of lesions and similar structures on computed tomography (CT) to other lung diseases or tissues. To overcome these problems, we propose a novel RNN-combined graph convolutional network (R2GCN) method, which integrates the bidirectional recurrent network (BRN) and graph convolution network (GCN) modules. First, feature extraction is performed on the input image by VGG-16 or ResNet-50 to obtain the feature map. The feature map is then used as the input of the two modules. On the one hand, we adopt the BRN to retrieve contextual information from the feature map. On the other hand, we take the vector for each location in the feature map as input nodes and utilize GCN to extract node topology information. Finally, two types of features obtained fuse together. Our strategy can not only make full use of node correlations and differences, but also obtain more precise segmentation boundaries. Extensive experiments on CT images of cavitary patients with tuberculosis show that our proposed method achieves the best segmentation accuracy than compared segmentation methods. Our method can be used for the diagnosis of tuberculosis cavity and the evaluation of tuberculosis cavity treatment.

10. Significance of voiced and unvoiced speech segments for the detection of common cold.
10. 浊音和清音语音片段对普通感冒检测的意义PMID:日期:2022-11-15This work investigates the significance of the voiced and unvoiced region for detecting common cold from the speech signal. In literature, the entire speech signal is processed to detect the common cold and other diseases. This study uses a short-time energy-based approach to segment the voiced and unvoiced region of the speech signal. Then, frame-wise mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) features are extracted from the voiced and unvoiced segments of each speech utterance, and statistics (mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis) are calculated to get the feature vector for each speech utterance. The support vector machine (SVM) is utilized to analyze the performance of features extracted from the voiced and unvoiced region. Result shows that the feature extracted from voiced segments, unvoiced segments, and complete active speech (CAS) gives almost similar results using the MFCC features and SVM classifier. Therefore, rather than processing the CAS, we can process the unvoiced speech segments, which have fewer frames compared to CAS and voiced regions of speech. The processing of solely unvoiced segments can reduce the time and computation complexity of a speech signal-based common cold detection system.
