1. Psychological Autopsy Protocols - A Selective Narrative Review.
PMID:日期:2026-09-15Psychological autopsy (PA) is a methodological approach aimed at reconstructing the psychological and contextual factors leading to an individual's death, particularly in cases of suicide. This article provides a comprehensive review of Psychological Autopsy Protocols, examining their evolution across the decades from the first generation of psychological autopsy studies to a second generation focusing on methodological improvements. Methodological aspects of psychological autopsies are discussed, emphasizing both strengths and limitations of the approach. The review then delves into specific PA protocols, showcasing prominent initiatives such as the National Suicide Prevention Project in Finland, McGill Group for Suicide Studies, Chinese PA Project, and the Spanish FRienDS project, as well as notable methodologies such as the SSIPA (Semi-Structured Interview for PA) and other psychological autopsy research efforts conducted globally. In conclusion, review consolidates knowledge on psychological autopsy protocols, providing a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and policymakers engaged in suicide prevention. The findings underscore the importance of refining methodologies and advancing the field to enhance our understanding of the aetiology of suicide.

2. The School-to-Guardian Pipeline: Understanding the Medical and Social Implications for Individuals with Significant Disabilities.
PMID:日期:2026-09-09As children move from being a minor to 18 and over as adults, the decision-making power shifts from the parent to the now adult child. That is unless legal guardianship is sought. One of the first encounters parents begin to really process the ramifications of this change is at school during individualized education program (IEP) transition planning meetings which begin for students with disabilities as early as 14 years in some states and school systems and required by federal law to occur by 16 years old. Local education agencies, or school districts, are required to inform students and parents of the shift in responsibilities when the child reaches the age of majority of 18 years old. This paper provides alternatives to guardianship and explores ways in which healthcare providers can support their patients who may be exploring decision-making options at 18 years old. Teachers and other school personnel often provide information that encourages parents to seek guardianship, pushing yet another student into the school-to-guardianship pipeline. Guardianship is not always the best option, yet it is often recommended, especially for transition-aged youth and young adults with significant disabilities. Healthcare providers are sometimes part of these school meetings, but more often, medical professionals provide assessment results to inform an individual's need for guardianship to the courts. Healthcare providers should comprehend the different ways in which individuals with significant disabilities make decisions upon reaching adulthood. This knowledge should include a clear understanding of the implications and consequences of a court taking away partial or full legal decision-making capabilities from a young adult with a significant disability.

3. Integrating Yoga and Mindfulness in the Management of Internet Gaming Disorder: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence and Future Directions.
PMID:日期:2026-09-09Despite Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) remaining the frontline treatment for Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), the therapeutic potential of yoga and mindfulness-based interventions (YBIs/MBIs) remains incompletely synthesized. This narrative review evaluates their efficacy in reducing IGD symptoms and associated psychosocial outcomes, while identifying underlying therapeutic mechanisms and research gaps. Across the literature, mindfulness meditation consistently outperformed Progressive Muscle Relaxation in reducing IGD severity, supported by neuroimaging evidence of improved prefrontal-striatal connectivity. Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement produced durable symptom reductions at three-month follow-up, while integrated yoga modules yielded broad improvements across IGD symptoms, psychological distress, and attentional control in adolescents. YBIs/MBIs demonstrate meaningful potential as adjunctive IGD treatments, particularly when integrated with CBT, with notable cultural adaptability across school and clinical settings. Future research should prioritize multi-site RCTs, standardized outcome batteries, and extended follow-up to establish standalone efficacy.

4. Associations Between Different Subtypes of Adverse Childhood Experiences with Reproductive Mood Disorders-a Scoping Review.
PMID:日期:2026-08-29Growing evidence suggests that adverse childhood experiences (ACE) increase the risk for reproductive mood disorders (RMD), i.e. premenstrual syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, postpartum and perimenopausal depression, and might be associated with symptom severity in these disorders. However, evidence for the specific impact of ACE subtypes remains scarce. This review investigates whether certain ACE subtypes are more prevalent among women with RMDs, whether women exposed to ACE have a higher risk to develop such disorders and if the degree of exposure is associated with the symptom severity. We conducted a literature search across electronic data bases and reviewed a final selection of 16 studies that differentiated between ACE subtypes. The findings indicate that emotional abuse tends to be the subtype most clearly associated with these disorders. While emotional abuse was consistently linked to adverse outcomes, the complexities of ACE co-occurrence and the potential differing impacts of other subtypes such as different forms of abuse and neglect are underscored. The review highlights the variability in study populations, methodologies, and assessment tools. The interplay between hormonal fluctuations and emotional dysregulation is discussed as potential mediators in the development of RMDs, suggesting that emotional abuse may exacerbate sensitivity to hormonal changes. Future research is called for to clarify subtype-specific mechanisms, age-related effects, and genetic predispositions to hormonal sensitivity following ACE. Overall, this article contributes to the understanding of how ACE subtypes intersect with the etiology of RMDs in women, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches in research and clinical interventions.

5. GLP-1 and dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists' psychopharmacology and putative neuropsychiatric associated effects: a Bradford Hill-informed, systematic, evaluation.
5. GLP-1及双重GIP/GLP-1受体激动剂的精神药理学及推测的神经精神相关效应:一项基于布拉德福德·希尔标准的系统性评估PMID:日期:2026-08-21This review evaluates evidence linking both GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1RAs' exposure to a range of neuropsychiatric outcomes using the Bradford Hill criteria for causal inference. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and the dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide-GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists (RAs) are incretin-based medications widely prescribed for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, with demonstrated cardiometabolic benefit and rapidly expanding population exposure. In parallel, post-marketing surveillance and emerging translational research have raised questions regarding potential central nervous system effects, including neuropsychiatric adverse events and psychopharmacological properties. Integrating data from receptor pharmacology, preclinical neuroscience, randomized controlled trials, and observational and pharmacovigilance studies, the strength, consistency, biological plausibility, and experimental support for reported associations with depression, anxiety, suicidality, reward-related behaviour, cognitive effects and retinal/ocular related disturbances were here assessed. Implications for clinical risk-benefit assessment were discussed as well. Current evidence supports potential biological plausibility of a relationship between GLP-1 RAs and a range of psychopathological disorders but remains insufficient to establish causality for most neuropsychiatric outcomes, suggesting the need for prospective, mechanism-informed clinical studies.

6. Maternal Neuroplasticity: Understanding Brain Changes with Perinatal Depression and Anxiety in Women.
PMID:日期:2026-08-20The transition to parenthood is a unique period of adulthood during which the brain undergoes profound and rapid changes, particularly in birthing mothers. This transition is also associated with a risk of developing mental illness, likely due to intersections among the neurobiological changes and a host of psychosocial factors including one's history of mental illness and lack of adequate support systems for parents. Emerging evidence indicates that perinatal depression and anxiety are associated with distinct neural alterations that overlap with the brain areas also involved in caregiving. Thus, there is a critical need to better understand the neurobiological mechanisms underlying perinatal mental illness for both maternal and child wellbeing. The goals of this review are to highlight key findings from current research on the ways in which human brain function and structure are associated with (1) perinatal depression, (2) perinatal anxiety, and (3) treatments aimed at promoting parental mental health. Advances in understanding the neuroplasticity associated with perinatal depression and anxiety will inform the development of targeted interventions and treatments aimed at supporting parental wellbeing, promoting healthy parent-infant relationships, and improving peripartum brain health.

7. Eating Disorder Focused Family Therapy with Autistic Children and Young People: A Narrative Review of Recent Developments.
PMID:日期:2026-08-14This review aims to report the recent advances for eating disorder focused family therapy (FT-ED) for Autistic children and young people, including outcomes, experiences, and suggested adaptations. Quantitative studies suggest that Autistic children and young people (and those with high autistic traits) receiving outpatient FT-ED are more likely to require escalation to more intensive levels of care compared to non-autistic peers. Qualitative research shows that Autistic young people and their parents/carers often report poor experiences of FT-ED. Clinicians report a lack of confidence, particularly when adapting care from a manualised approach. Commonly suggested adaptations include environmental adjustments (e.g., quiet spaces, dimmed lights), sensory-informed understanding of food and eating preferences (e.g., accounting for historical eating behaviour), communication adaptations (e.g., passports and clear, literal language), psychoeducation on autism and eating disorders, careful consideration of externalization, and use of separated sessions. Given that Autistic children and young people and their parents report poorer experiences of FT-ED relative to their non-autistic peers, adaptations that accommodate autistic needs while not interfering with ED recovery should be considered. Further development of guidelines and decision-making tools may support FT-ED clinicians to deliver effective and inclusive care.

8. Recurrent Deliberate Foreign Body Ingestion: Psychiatric Comorbidities, Management Strategies, and Ethical Considerations.
PMID:日期:2026-08-14Recurrent deliberate foreign body ingestion (DFBI) is a high-risk, resource-intensive behavior most often associated with underlying psychiatric conditions. Although medical and surgical complications are well documented, the psychiatric drivers and optimal management of DFBI are less well characterized. This review synthesizes current evidence on the epidemiology, psychiatric comorbidities, behavioral mechanisms, management strategies, and ethical challenges associated with DFBI [1, 2, 4, 6]. Recent work highlights the roles of emotion dysregulation, personality pathology-particularly borderline personality disorder-and reinforcement mechanisms in perpetuating recurrent ingestion [1, 3, 10]. A small subset of individuals accounts for a disproportionate share of hospitalizations, underscoring the chronic and relapsing nature of this behavior and its substantial healthcare costs [1, 4]. Effective care requires coordinated multidisciplinary management that integrates medical stabilization with psychiatric treatment, including structured behavioral plans, consistent team-based responses, and attention to countertransference [2, 7]. Psychotherapeutic modalities, particularly dialectical behavior therapy and borderline personality disorder-informed models, are central to long-term management, while pharmacologic interventions primarily target comorbid conditions rather than ingestion [10-12]. Ethical considerations, including assessment of decision-making capacity, perceptions of futility, and resource allocation, further complicate care [13-15]. DFBI is a complex, recurrent behavior driven by diverse psychiatric, behavioral, and systemic factors. Effective management requires coordinated multidisciplinary care that integrates medical stabilization, psychiatric treatment, structured behavioral interventions, and ethical decision-making to reduce recurrence and improve outcomes.

9. Perceived Family Support in Adolescence and its Impact on Suicide risk: A Narrative Review.
PMID:日期:2026-08-12This narrative review focuses on the relationship between perceived family support and suicide risk in adolescence (10-19 years, with some evidence extending into young adulthood), emphasizing the role of family support as a buffer against stressful life events. Suicide and suicidal behavior among adolescents are one of the major social and health problems of the 21st century. An emerging body of studies has explored the risk and protective factors independently, but less specific research has examined how these factors relate to each other. Specifically, family support appears to be one of the most significant attenuators of suicide risk in the presence of stressful life events or adverse circumstances. It is also worth considering the possible differential effects depending on other variables such as gender or age.

10. Suicide Risk in Glioblastoma Multiforme: A Brief Review of Risk Factors, Screening, and Prevention.
10. 多形性胶质母细胞瘤的自杀风险:危险因素、筛查和预防的简要综述PMID:日期:2026-08-12Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive primary brain tumor associated with poor prognosis, rapid functional decline, and psychological distress. An updated review of the literature is lacking, despite that patients with GBM appear to be among the highest risk for suicide among cancer patients. This review summarizes up-to-date evidence of suicide risk factors, screening approaches, and suicide mitigation strategies in patients with GBM. Suicide risk is the highest in the first year following GBM diagnosis. It is also associated with older age, male gender, and tumor-related factors such as supratentorial location. Other factors such as neurocognitive decline and poor functional status may also contribute. Evidence emerging from broader oncology populations suggests that demoralization and existential distress may be factors, though these have not been studied in GBM cohorts. Treatment-related psychiatric adverse effects from corticosteroids, anti-epileptic drugs, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy may also influence psychiatric illness and mediate suicide risk. Screening tools such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Colombia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale have been effectively used to screen for suicide in conjunction with clinical interviewing in GBM patients. Evidence-based suicide reduction interventions include psychotherapy, safety planning, lethal means restriction, and caregiver support. GBM is a diagnosis that is associated with higher rates of suicide than almost all other cancers, and the extant literature identifies demographic and tumor features that are associated with suicide in this population. Effective interventions exist to identify and support these patients. Future studies should systematically measure risk factors identified in broader oncology populations to identify additional GBM-specific risk factors for suicide.
