1. Exploring bioactive compounds in functional foods of the Mediterranean diet.
PMID:日期:2026-10-03Functional foods are rich in bioactive compounds that promote health. The Mediterranean diet (MD), characterised by a high intake of plant-based foods, is associated with reduced risk of metabolic disorders. This study investigated Lebanese za'atar and Italian extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), two representative MD functional foods, to evaluate their phytochemical composition and biological activities. The aqueous za'atar extract (ZE) and hydro-methanolic EVOO extract (EvOE) were characterised and assessed for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. EvOE showed higher total phenols (259 ± 19 vs. 85 ± 7 μg GAE/mg extract) and flavonoids (1509 ± 162 vs. 177 ± 11 μg QE/mg extract) than ZE. Both extracts exhibited comparable ABTS antioxidant activity (IC: 83 ± 8 and 87 ± 6 μg/mL). ZE showed greater hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (25.66%), whereas EvOE showed stronger inhibition of protein denaturation (31.3%). These findings support their potential as functional food ingredients.

3. {"_":"Semi-synthesis of indole-fused taraxerone derivatives from : anti-bacterial study and docking insights.","i":["Rhizophora stylosa Griff."]}
PMID:日期:2026-10-01A series of novel semisynthetic indole-fused taraxerone derivatives () were synthesised from taraxerone isolated from and characterised by H NMR,C NMR, and HRMS analyses. Incorporation of the pharmacologically important indole moiety was aimed at enhancing protein-ligand interactions and antibacterial activity. The synthesised compounds, , were evaluated against Gram-positive bacteria ( sp. and ) and Gram-negative bacteria ( and ). All derivatives exhibited notable antibacterial activity, with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranging from 3.12 to 25 µg mL. Among them, compound showed the highest potency, with an MIC of 3.12 µg mL, approximately two-fold more active than streptomycin sulphate (MIC = 6.25 µg mL). Molecular docking studies against the bacterial target protein (PDB ID: 5JZX) revealed favourable binding affinities for compounds . These results identify indole-fused taraxerone derivatives as promising leads for antibacterial drug development.

4. {"_":"Comparative metabolite profiling of leaf extracts using LC-MS and GC-MS.","i":["Rhaphidophora decursiva"]}
PMID:日期:2026-10-01, an ethnomedicinal Araceae species with limited phytochemical characterisation, was investigated to define its solvent-dependent metabolite profile. Three solvent-derived analytical fractions/extracts were examined: an n-hexane fraction (RDH), a methanolic extract (RDM), and a 20% hydromethanolic extract (RDHM). These were comparatively characterised using complementary, solvent-matched mass-spectrometric platforms. Preliminary phytochemical assessment by two-dimensional paper chromatography and acid hydrolysis indicated a chemically diverse matrix, including glycosidically bound constituents. LC-MS profiling of the methanolic and hydromethanolic extracts tentatively annotated fourteen polar/semi-polar metabolites, dominated by phenolic acids, flavonoid derivatives, phenolic glycosides, and related polyphenols. GC-MS profiling of the n-hexane fraction yielded nine plant-associated non-polar constituents, including hydrocarbons, aromatic oxygenated compounds, fatty-acid derivatives, esters, and lipid-associated metabolites; an additional dibutyl phthalate signal was classified as a probable exogenous contaminant and excluded from the phytochemical inventory. The results demonstrate clear solvent-driven partitioning between polar/glycosidic and lipophilic fractions. This solvent-resolved LC-MS/GC-MS profile of leaves establishes a chemical inventory for dereplication, targeted isolation, structural confirmation, chemotaxonomic comparison, and future bioactivity-guided investigation.

5. {"_":"Endophytic sp. from as a novel source of cytochalasin D with antimalarial activity against and anticancer activity against MCF-7 cells.","i":["Xylaria","Syzygium myrtifolium","Plasmodium falciparum"]}
PMID:日期:2026-10-01Endophytic fungi associated with have significant potential as rapid sources of bioactive compounds for drug discovery. This study aimed to identify antimalarial and anticancer compounds from an endophytic fungal isolate sp., associated with . The sp. SmPdDh-4 isolate was identified using morphological characterisation and phylogenetic analysis. Metabolite profiling was performed using LC-HRMS and further confirmed by NMR spectroscopy, identifying cytochalasin D as the major compound, which was also confirmed by X-ray diffraction examination. Field-emission electron microscopy indicated that cytochalasin D crystals tend to form anisotropic aggregates with rod- or needle-like morphologies, occasionally exhibiting plate-like facets. Biological activity assays demonstrated that this compound exhibits antimalarial activity against and moderate cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Molecular docking analysis revealed that cytochalasin D exhibited stable interactions and high binding affinity with several target proteins implicated in antimalarial and anticancer activities.

PMID:日期:2026-09-30L. (Pteridaceae) is traditionally used to manage diabetes and murky urine. The study explores the phytoconstituents in and evaluates the and bioactivity in anti-hyperglycaemic and nephroprotective assays. Targeted UHPLC-QTOF-MS analysis tentatively identified 9 compounds. enzyme inhibition assays demonstrated inhibition (IC) of α-glucosidase (40.85 ± 0.6 μg/mL) and α-amylase (45.12 ± 0.28 μg/mL), comparable to acarbose (19.65 ± 0.58 μg/mL and 22.54 ± 0.28 μg/mL, respectively). The extract at 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg body weight reduced fasting blood glucose and HbA1c levels, along with improvements in serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and urine microalbumin, in a high-fat diet-induced diabetic rat model treated with low-dose streptozotocin. Histopathological assessment showed reduced structural damage in the kidney, pancreas, and liver tissues. The study evaluates and links phytoconstituents to the anti-hyperglycaemic and nephroprotective potential, providing a basis for further investigations to substantiate their potential as a source of bioactive natural products.

8. Source, biological activity, molecular mechanism, pharmacokinetics, and preparation of luteoloside.
PMID:日期:2026-09-30Luteoloside, a flavonoid compound, is widely distributed in various plant families. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that luteoloside exhibits a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities and , including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, antioxidant, and cardioprotective effects. However, its therapeutic potential is significantly constrained by poor aqueous solubility, extensive presystemic metabolism, and consequently low oral bioavailability. Pharmacokinetic studies reveal route-dependent behaviour and rapid clearance. To overcome these hurdles, advanced delivery systems such as microemulsions, polymeric nanocarriers, and hydrogels have been developed. Toxicological assessments indicate a wide therapeutic window with low acute toxicity. In conclusion, this review consolidates the substantial preclinical evidence supporting luteoloside's multi-target mechanisms. Nevertheless, it also critically highlights the existing gaps, particularly the absence of clinical data and the challenges in pharmacokinetics, which must be addressed through rigorous future research to evaluate its true clinical potential.

9. {"_":"Evaluation of the bioactive constituents, antioxidant potential, and enzyme inhibitory activities of .","i":["Salvia longipedicellata"]}
PMID:日期:2026-09-29In this study, the phytochemical profile, antioxidant activity, enzyme inhibitory effects, and molecular docking properties of the methanol extract obtained from the aerial parts of were investigated. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents of the extract were determined as 57.06 mg GAE/g and 23.50 mg RE/g extract, respectively. HPLC-DAD analysis revealed that (-)-epicatechin, hesperetin, trans-caffeic acid, and chlorogenic acid were the major phytochemical constituents. The extract exhibited strong antioxidant activity in DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP, phosphomolybdenum, and metal chelating assays. It also showed inhibitory effects against acetylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, α-amylase, and α-glucosidase enzymes. Molecular docking studies suggested that epicatechin and hesperetin possessed strong binding affinities towards the selected target enzymes. The findings indicate that is a promising natural source of bioactive compounds with potential antioxidants, neuroprotective, antidiabetic, and anti-hyperpigmentation properties.

10. {"_":" and anti-inflammatory investigation of triterpenoids from .","i":["In vitro","in silico","combretum trifoliatum"]}
PMID:日期:2026-09-29A saponin-enriched extract from the Vent. leaves (SE-CTL) exhibited notable anti-inflammatory activity, with an IC of 46.39 g/mL against LPS-induced Nitric Oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 macrophages. Phytochemical investigation of SE-CTL led to the isolation and structure elucidation of nine triterpenoids () using HRESIMS, NMR, and comparison with literature data. Notably, triterpene acids ( and ) were identified for the first time from the genus. Most compounds showed significant anti-inflammatory activity (IC = 25.55-36.87 M), and triterpene acids () displayed moderate cytotoxicity against HT-29 and MKN-7 cells (IC = 69.94-98.06 M). studies suggested that their anti-inflammatory effects may involve inhibition of TLR4 and iNOS, with compound showing strong TLR4 binding (ΔG = -44.84 kcal/mol and stable RMSD during a 100-ns MD simulation). These findings highlight as a promising source of bioactive triterpenoids with anti-inflammatory potential.
